A dawn-to-dusk hartal was observed in Chitalmari upazila of Bagerhat on Monday as activists of the All-Party Alliance blocked the Dhaka–Chitalmari highway, demanding reinstatement of the district’s four parliamentary constituencies.
The protesters warned that if their demand was not met, they would announce tougher programs in the coming days. During the hartal, all road communications in the upazila were suspended while shops and markets remained closed. Activists staged demonstrations and chanted slogans throughout the day.
The previous day, announcements were made through loudspeakers, and a protest procession was brought out in support of the hartal and blockade program.

Chief Engineer Masud Rana, BNP leader and candidate for Bagerhat-1 constituency
Mominul Haque Tulu Biswas, president of Chitalmari Upazila BNP and convener of the All-Party Alliance Committee
Maulana Md. Moniruzzaman, ameer of Chitalmari Upazila Jamaat-e-Islami
Ahsan Habib Thandu, former member-secretary of Upazila BNP and joint convener of the Alliance Committee
Md. Shariful Hasan Apu, newly elected general secretary of Chitalmari Upazila BNP
Advocate Md. Fazlul Hoque Sheikh, organizing secretary of the upazila BNP
Zakaria Milon, convener of the Upazila Jubo Dal, and Sheikh Asad, member-secretary
Md. Niyamat Ali Khan, convener of the Upazila Swechchhasebak Dal, and Kashinath Boiragi, member-secretary
Dr. Kazi Abul Kalam, president of Islami Andolan Bangladesh, Chitalmari upazila unit
Speakers reiterated: “We strongly demand that Bagerhat’s four parliamentary constituencies be reinstated. If the demand is ignored, we will be compelled to wage even stronger movements.”
